INDIANA: NOM Launches Renewed Bid To Ban Marriage In State Constitution

Despite issuing two terrible decisions on marriage, the US Supreme Court stopped short of fabricating a “right” to redefine marriage in our Constitution, allowing individual states to settle the question. And today, Indiana has that chance! Governor Pence has called upon the legislature to take up the second vote needed to put marriage before the people of Indiana for a vote. The Indiana Marriage Amendment (HJR-6) was passed by the legislature in 2011, and needs just one more legislative approval before going to voters in 2014. Please use the form below to send a message to your state senator and representative, urging them to do everything they can to make sure the people of Indiana have the opportunity to vote on marriage.

According to a poll cited by Freedom To Marry, a majority of Indiana residents oppose placing a ban in the state constitution. (And that poll is from six months ago.)  Leaders from both state legislative chambers announced earlier this year that they would not bring the issue to a vote in the 2013 session.
